Eye Of The Tiger

I am so excited to announce the winner of She's So Me Blog's Very First Giveaway!!
***Drummmm roooooooolllll*** Aaaaaaand The Winner is Ms. Janice Phillips! Congratulations and thank you so much for entering the giveaway and being a loyal reader of The She's So Me Blog!!!

So yesterday was a very cold and rainy day here in Atlanta and, I must say, my mood definitely coincided with the weather. With that being said, I refused to let that slump control my day. Usually, when I am having a crappy day, you can tell because I will mostly likely be dressed sloppily. Here's a fun fact about me also, when I am dressed crappy I feel even more crappy. So, yesterday I decided to pick out something nice to wear and show everyone that I have the eye of the tiger!

A little info about the outfit I picked out!
As you all know, I love to mix prints. It drives my mother crazy but I love it: polka dots with stripes, animal print with tribal print, stripes with animal print. It doesn't matter to me as long as I can make it work.

I mix my prints in such a way that you almost don't realize I am wearing two (or more) different types of prints.

The secret behind mixing your prints is to always match the undertone. Find one color and build the outfit around it. In this outfit, my color was navy blue. I created my navy blue outfit first, then added the tiger print cardigan to it after. When it comes to mixing prints, in the words of rapper Drake - "started from the bottom now we're here."

Don't get overwhelmed and think too hard about the outfit. Fashion is an art. It should be effortless and it should be an illustration of what you feel. So, don't sit for hours trying to figure out which prints go with what. Just take it easy and build your outfit from the bottom up!

The Essentials

I was recently out with one of my friends and I had a little personal emergency. I am sure we have all been there! Well, it got me thinking about the essentials. The essentials -- that's what I call those items that you should ALWAYS have in your purse or in your car at all times. Check out my list of essentials below!

1) Lip Gloss/Lipstick - When I leave the house without my lipstick or lip gloss -- I don't care how far I've driven -- I come right back home. Chapped lips are a no no.

2) A pack of wipes - Wipes are MUST HAVE in your purse or in your car. You just never know what accidents may happen while you are out and about. I've actually had spills on my outfits that I have completely gotten rid of with a wipe!

3) Lotion - Do not leave your house without lotion in your purse! This is especially important now as the weather gets colder. Below is my favorite lotion and you will always find it in my purse: Aveeno. I love Aveeno because -- not only does it soften the skin so effortlessly -- it also functions effectively for all skins tones and types.

4) Portable Mirror - I don't know about you, but I sure don't like being out and not knowing what I look like at any given moment! Make sure you get yourself a cute portable mirror and keep it in your purse!

5) Body Mist - Ladies, you should always have some "smell good" on you. It doesn't mean that you smell badly, but its just essential to have something to touch up with so you can maintain that beautiful scent you already have. Give this Victoria Secret Mini Mist Set (only $40) as a gift this Holiday season.

We Remember Moments

Today was pretty much an awesome day!

Today I got to catch up with my old friend Arielle -- who I hadn't seen for years -- and we reminisced on our awesome college memories. The college years were definitely four of the best years ever! We laughed, cheered, talked, and giggled about the good ole dorm room days. It was simply amazing. As much as I loved discussing our memories and the good ole days, I look forward to creating brand new memories for us to talk about in the future!

Oh how I've missed Arielle
Recently, I was helping a friend decorate her new apartment and the quote below (by Cesare Pavese) was a part of her wall decor. Today really got me thinking about this quote. While Arielle and I discussed our memories, it was really all those special moments that we could remember. You could ask me anything else that happened during any given day and I would have had no idea; however, those special moments always stand out. I live for the moments that become memories that we will never forget!

One Woman's Trash Is Another Woman's Treasure

My mother has been doing some spring cleaning in her closet and putting aside clothing she wants to give away to the Church. Recently, she put on the sweater below and joked around about how big it is on her now and she was going to toss it into the giveaway pile. However, when I looked at that oversized sweater, I saw FASHION! I told her I was going to find a way to wear the sweater and we laughed about it because I am even tinier than her. Low and behold, you can imagine her surprise when she got off work yesterday and saw the pictures below in her inbox. I told you I could work with it mom! I turned it into a sweater dress. The sweater itself is naturally oversized so it didn't look awkward as a dress. I got so many compliments about this impromptu outfit. One woman's trash is another woman's treasure!

The Drexina Nelson Salon: Beauty Media Network's Be Beautiful Salon Tour

Fabulous Atlanta fashion, extravagant hairdos, shoeicide, captivating artwork, exquisite cuisine, intriguing small talk and so much more: These are a few of the things I experienced during the Beauty Media Network's Salon Tour stop at The Drexina Nelson Salon here in Atlanta, Georgia.

I joined celebrity photographer Drexina Nelson at her brand new salon for what was appropriately called "the ultimate art, fashion, beauty affair." When you first approach the building, you aren't prepared for how beautiful the salon you are about to witness is. I loved the modern decor that utilized a chic combination of black and silver.  The walls were adorned with beautiful photography artwork and I was surely impressed. I was even more impressed at how inviting and warm Drexina herself was. I took a second to introduce myself to her and she was so kind and pleasant. I was especially excited about my conversation with Drexina because I found out her salon caters to natural hair! They will surely be seeing me there very soon! Oh, and lets not forget how FAB Drexina looked!

Me with the lady of the night; Drexina Nelson

Now lets talk about the event itself. I loved it! I took my mom as my date to this event for a little mother daughter bonding time! We had a blast. Everyone was so friendly and ready for conversation. I was a little shocked because we all know the perception about women in Atlanta: MEAN! However, this was not the case at this event. Everyone mingled, conversed, laughed, drank, and ate. It was surely a beautiful night.

How fly was my mother's outfit for the event!
So I have a little event "networking" advice for you all. If you ever attend an event and at first you aren't sure how to start conversation, then start with a complement. People love to hear what you love about them and trust me it will get the conversation going. Here is the thing though, don't jump start the conversation if you have nowhere to drive it to. For example, if you want to introduce yourself to the host of the event, then start with a compliment about the event then move on to talk about what you do and hand her/him your business card. Usually, if you got a chance to talk to the host of the event, you don't have much time being that they are busy and everyone is trying to get that one-on-one time too. I must admit, sometimes I get a little shy, but the more I network the easier it gets.

So anyway... you all know I couldn't go home without my goodie bag from BASIC Hair Care System. The cute goodie bag was stuffed with the boost sulfate free shampoo, the restoration conditioner, and a little bottle of herbaceous oil. Connect with them on twitter using hashtag #basichaircare and on instagram using #basichaircare.

If you want to check out The Drexina Nelson Salon, it is located at 781 Wheeler Street #7 Atlanta, Georgia 30318. Again, I am especially excited that they cater to natural hair -- once these braids are out -- I will definitely be going there for a blow out. Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright!

Sometimes in life we get blindsided by a variety of conditions: family drama, relationship drama, friendship issues, financial issues, health issues, emotional issues, and so much more. The worst part is that these situations always seem to happen all at once and often catch us off guard.

I can personally attest to this. Lately, I've had a lot going on in my life. Don't get me wrong, not everything has been negative, but oftentimes the negative issues tend to overshadow the positive (and this shouldn't be so). It is a very weird place to be in when certain situations are going well but at the same time other situations are going askew. It is a place where you want to be grateful for all that is going well, but at the same time you are frustrated at what isn't quite working out.

It's times like this when you have to find your happy place! Your "happy place" doesn't have to be a physical location, it can be a person (or people), a song, a book, or anything that reminds you that every little thing is gonna be alright!

My happy places are my friends and my family, my Bob Marley playlist, my doggie Alex, and this blog! While I am on this subject, I would like to take a second to thank all of my friends who are there when I need to vent, cry, or complain about anything! They listen, they make me laugh, and they remind me that every little thing is gonna be alright!

So what are your happy places? If you don't know, you need to find out! So when negative energy decides to catch you off guard (and throws Miley Cyrus' wrecking balls at you), then you catch negative energy off guard too by retreating to your happy place for positive energy and throw that wrecking ball right back at it!!

When I look at all the beautiful fall trees currently out in Atlanta, I see a beautiful connection with rebirth and rejuvenation. Whenever you are going through negativity in your life, retreat to your happy place and be reborn. Dust off your old fall leaves and start over for a new season and a new you. This is especially applicable as we prepare to enter a brand new year!!!
